ARE YOU READY TO END CANCER?
In my three years as an employee at UCI, one event has touched me the most, the UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge. From the amazing dedication of the Cancer Center’s director to the energy and passion that is felt the day of the event, the Anti-Cancer Challenge truly exists to help put an end to cancer.
I named my team to honor my father in law, Dan Mabbott. He was diagnosed with lung cancer over six years ago shortly after I started dating his son, now my husband. Through many surgeries, various clinical trials and chemo treatments, there isn’t a moment I can think of since I met Dan Mabbott Sr. where he wasn’t the most upbeat person in the room. He exudes calm and carefree and just makes you want to smile. Literally nothing, not even cancer, can bring this man down.
He is an inspiration to not only those surviving alongside him with this disease but to those of us who have someone close to us that has cancer. He’s a fighter and has inspired me to join the fight. While the team is called Dan the Man, he isn’t the first person that has inspired me to help support the cause. My mother is a breast cancer survivor and most recently, in January 2020, I lost a dear friend to colon cancer. So this year, in particular, I dedicate my fight to Jorge Castellon and Dan Mabbott Sr.
Please join me in the fight against cancer in one of two ways:
1. Make a fast, easy, and safe tax-deductible donation to help me meet my fundraising goal. 100% of proceeds go directly to life-saving cancer research at the UC Irvine Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Every gift - no matter the size - makes an impact on the cancer fight.
2. Join my team to ride, run, walk, volunteer on Saturday, June 8 at Aldrich Park at the University of California, Irvine.
Are you ready to rise to the challenge and put cancer behind us? Join me!
