2019 Anti-Cancer Challenge

Bicycle Club of Irvine

BCI club members and friends, we want you on our team!

With the approval of the club’s Board of Directors, we have formed a team to support the 2019 UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge on Saturday June 8th. BCI Team members can chose between 10, 30, 60, or 100 mile rides, or a 20 mile mountain bike ride. All routes depart and return to Aldrich Park at the UCI Campus.

The rides include well stocked rest stops and SAG support, as well as a festival with food and entertainment. 60 and 100 mile routes include a scenic ride by the ocean and lunch at the Monarch Beach Resort! Team members who raise $500 or more will also receive an event jersey.

We have set a goal of 40 team members raising $10,000 in donations for the event. Each team member must commit to raising $250 in order to participate. (All funds must be donated to individual team members, there is no mechanism to donate to a team.) 100% of all donations raised by team members go directly to fund local anti-cancer research at UCI.

Club secretary Bob McHenry is serving as Team Captain for the event. In preparation for BCI’s Onyx Challenge ride on June 1st and a summer tour in Colorado, Bob will be riding most Saturday “Long” and Sunday “Long+” club routes in the coming months, weather and time permitting. Join him and be ready to tackle a century ride in our own backyard at the Anti-Cancer Challenge!

We are in need of 3 Team Co-Captains to help coordinate our club members training for the 10, 30, and 60 mile road rides. If you would like to serve as a Co-Captain, please click on the “JOIN TEAM” link above, sign up as a participant, and email secretary@bikeirvine.org with your interest.

If you cannot participate in a ride, you may also join the BCI Team as a volunteer or virtual participant. Or consider making a donation to one of our team members to help us reach our team fundraising goal.

The club believes the opportunity to assist UCI with its local anti-cancer efforts will also be a good way to promote camaraderie in our club, as well as participate in a worthwhile and enjoyable local bicycling event.  Please join the BCI Team and help make this a successful event for all.

Thank you!
