Anti-Cancer Challenge FAQ

EVENT FAQ

WILL THE ANTI-CANCER CHALLENGE PARTICIPANTS GATHER IN ONE LOCATION ON CHALLENGE DAY?

The in-person Challenge Day and festival will not take place in 2021, due to the coronavirus pandemic and current social distancing measures. We hope we can ride, walk or run together in 2022 to raise funds for cancer research. In the meantime, please join us for our 2021 virtual program to fight cancer.

I HAVE NOT REGISTERED FOR THE ANTI-CANCER CHALLENGE, BUT I WANT TO HELP. WHAT CAN I DO?

Go to “Register” to become a virtual participant and help us fundraise for promising cancer research. Register as an individual or as part of a team. We also need virtual volunteers! You can sign up to volunteer under “Register”.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE MONEY I'VE RAISED EITHER PERSONALLY OR FOR MY TEAM IF THE EVENT IS VIRTUAL?

One-hundred percent of participant funds raised are dedicated to cancer research. This does not change with a virtual event. We appreciate your commitment and fundraising efforts. Your support is still critical and the funds you have raised will continue to support research at the UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.

CAN I WITHDRAW FROM THE EVENT?

You can cancel your participation in the Anti-Cancer Challenge. Donations are non-transferable and non-refundable.

WHAT IS A PARTICIPANT CENTER?

Every registered participant has access to a personal fundraising page; we call this a Participant Center. The Participant Center allows you to manage your personal web page and fundraising activity. You can share your personal web page with friends and family by simply clicking on a link in an email, text, or Facebook post. This page is a way to share with others why you are participating in the Anti-Cancer Challenge. It makes it easy for people to donate. Your Participant Center also includes email templates asking for donations and thanking donors. It also allows you to view donation progress and add a photo or video to your fundraising page.

HOW OLD DO I NEED TO BE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ANTI-CANCER CHALLENGE?

You can be any age to be a virtual participant. Anyone under 12 years of age should be registered as a child. To earn a T-shirt and medal, adult participants need to raise or donate $50 and children need to raise or donate $25.

IF THE EVENT IS VIRTUAL, HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY ANTI-CANCER CHALLENGE T-SHIRT?

All participants who reach $50 or more in fundraising will receive a 2021 Anti-Cancer Challenge T-shirt. If you reach the $50 fundraising milestone by July 18, your T-shirt and medal will be shipped to you prior to Challenge Day, August 14. After that date, $50 milestone prizes will be held and shipped August 31, when fundraising closes and all other milestone prizes are distributed.

CAN I STILL FUNDRAISE?

Yes! We may not be able to be together, but we can still fight to end cancer apart. Here is how we support you in your fundraising journey.

  • After registering for the Challenge, every participant has access to a personal fundraising page; we call this the Participant Center. It’s loaded with tools and templates to make your fundraising easy.
  • We have a mobile app to help you fundraise on the go. This app comes with sample texts, phone call prompts, and emails, as well as activity tracking and fitness challenges. It gives you the ability to accept donations from the palm of your hand.
  • You can also review our Donation FAQ section for more information.

Even though you are riding on your own, all riders need to follow the Rules of the Road, meaning roads are open to car traffic and all riders are required to follow the same laws as vehicles/drivers (e.g. stopping at stop signs and traffic lights). Click here to visit our safety page for more information.

Keep them going! Motivate your team to stay involved by connecting and sharing in each other’s success as milestones are achieved.

You can cancel your participation in the Anti-Cancer Challenge. If you plan to cancel your participation, write an email to anti-cancerchallenge@uci.edu to notify the Anti-Cancer Challenge office. Donations made in support of your ride are non-refundable.

WHAT IS A FUNDRAISING GOAL?

We encourage participants to set a high goal, as people are more likely to donate when they believe the participant has a difficult goal to reach.
