Dear Friends, Family, and Co-Cancer Research Crusaders,
It has been almost two years since my brilliant and amazing husband lost his life after a 15 year battle with multiple myeloma and amyloidosis. Originally given only months to live in his forties, then a young devoted father and family man, a community leader, and at the prime of his UCI career, he defied the odds. With the help of a life saving bone marrow transplant, modern science, prayers, willpower, and the unwavering support from family, friends and coworkers, Frank lived an additional 15 years beyond his initial diagnosis, gracing the world with his presence.
His legacy, laughter, and love live on, in the hearts and memories of all who knew him, and in the perpetuation of two scholarships in his namesake (one via Dr. Zaldivar's UCI Perc Lecture Scholarship, and one via Dr. Frank Zaldivar's ALMA Scholarship).
I'm grateful to Frank's UCI team and their ongoing commitment to honor him, and I join them in the ongoing search for Cancer Research and Treatment.
Please consider joining us October 11th, either in person, in prayer, in support, and in solidarity. I will be running in the memory of Frank, Peg, Maria, and all those who have left us too soon; and in honor of Jerry, Connor, Donna, Bob, Michael, and all of the other survivors and fighters.
Dearest Frank, I pray you know that you were greatly loved, and you are sorely missed.
