The OncoSlayers

History of Our Name:
Where does the name come from? "Onco" comes from the Greek word "onkos" which means burden. The burden of cancer is something felt and well recognized today. The study and treatment of cancer (oncology) ranges from basic research to patient bedside care. For one individual, the burden of cancer can seem too much to bear. However, if you take that burden and spread it between a group of unified individuals, the load is lightened. The goal of the OncoSlayers is to “slay” the burden of cancer, and we would like your help.

Please join our Anti-Cancer Challenge (ACC) Team. Founded at the start of the ACC in 2017, the OncoSlayers are the official Team of the UCI Cancer Research Institute (CRI). Led by Graduate Students from the Cancer Biology Training Grant (T32-CA009054) and the School of Medicine, this team welcome all community members, staff, faculty, students and researchers to join. This team holds fundraising events through-out the year. Past events included coffee, bake goods, hikes, bike rides, and succulent/plant sales.

Please contact Krystina in the Cancer Research Institute office if you have any questions and wish to be added to the events list-serv (kjarema@uci.edu)
