A heartfelt thank you to everyone for participating in the 2023 UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge!

This year, history was made as 3,800 passionate individuals from across the country united with a shared mission: to defeat cancer. The funds raised will play a pivotal role in fueling pilot projects and early phase clinical trials focused on cancer prevention, treatment and cures.

We are truly grateful for your dedication. Thank you for leading the charge against cancer.

There is still time to further your impact. Every dollar you raise supports innovative research at the UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and its pediatric cancer affiliate, Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).

Thank you again for helping us move one step closer to a cancer-free world.

Making a Difference

The fight against cancer begins with fundamental research on its causes, detection, prevention and treatment at National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer centers like the UCI Health Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.

NCI-designated cancer centers are national leaders in cancer research, education and treatment. Among those centers, only 56 are designated as "comprehensive" and recognized for meeting rigorous criteria aimed at providing world-class patient care and innovative research.

Your support through the UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge directly funds cancer-related projects that help UC Irvine physician-scientists generate crucial preliminary data for high impact research – to save lives.

Through a partnership with Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), a portion of the funds are dedicated to pediatric cancer research.

Kimberly Thorp's Story

In every story we share, we find a powerful source of inspiration that unites our community in the relentless battle against cancer. Meet dedicated UCI Anti-Cancer Challenge participant and cancer survivor, Kimberly Thorp. Kimberly always believed she could fight cancer – even when she was diagnosed with the deadliest form of cancer for American women, and even when some doctors treated her case as hopeless. Now, after more than a year of traveling across state lines for treatment from UCI Health physicians, she believes the worst is behind her, and she is dedicated to supporting UCI research that may help others facing similar diagnoses in the future.
